Allen downs Arizona in overtime, 3-2 (OT)

The Allen Americans pulled out a 3-2 (OT) overtime victory over the Arizona Sundogs on a clutch goal by Gregor Hanson.

Allen was paced by Hanson, who finished with one goal. Hanson scored 1:09 into overtime to make the score 3-2 Allen. Trevor Hendrikx provided the assist.

The Americans could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game.

Others who scored for Allen included Garrett Klotz and Spencer Asuchak, who scored one goal each. More assists for Allen came via Tyler Ludwig, Brian McMillin, Dallas Ehrhardt, and Phil Fox, who contributed one a piece.

Arizona put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Allen to score on any of its six power plays. The defense for the Sundogs played an important role offensively, racking up 10 shots on goal.

Arizona was helped by Paul McIlveen, who tallied one goal. McIlveen scored on the power play 14:46 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Arizona. The Sundogs had gained a power play chance when Daniel Tetrault was whistled for roughing. Bryan Cameron assisted on the tally. Arizona also got a goal from Kevin Baker as well. In addition, Arizona received assists from Justin Pender and David Rutherford, who each chipped in one.

Bryan Pitton recorded 22 saves for the Americans. Chris Rawlings rejected 24 shots on goal for Arizona. The Sundogs incurred 54 minutes in penalty time with 12 minors. For Arizona, Pender was ejected from the game.
