Missouri uses shootout to best Quad City, 5-4 (4-3 SO)

John-Scott Dickson scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and the Missouri Mavericks picked up the extra point in a 5-4 (4-3 SO) win over the Quad City Mallards.

The shootout lasted for 24 attempts between the teams. Quad City got shootout goals from Mike Hellyer, Vladimir Nikiforov, and Benjamin Dieude-Fauvel. Missouri also got shootout goals from Dickson, Sebastien Thinel, and Eric Castonguay.

The Mavericks saw a two-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. Missouri made the score 4-2 on a goal by Andrew Courtney at 39 seconds in the third period. The Mallards evened things up at 4-4 on a goal by Jeff Lee at 18:44 in the third period.

The Mavericks managed to stay out of the box better than usual, finishing with one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Missouri ended up below its season average of 18.0 penalty minutes per game. By firing 37 shots on goal, the Mavericks exceeded the 26.6 shots they average per game this year.

Missouri was led by Colt King, who registered two goals. King scored the first of his two goals at 2:47 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Missouri. Mike Ramsay assisted on the tally. King's next tally made the score 2-1 Missouri with 15:50 left in the second period. Ramsay picked up the assist. Missouri also got points from Castonguay, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Missouri were Trevor Kell, who had two and Dave Pszenyczny and Thinel, who each chipped in one.

Quad City forced the Mavericks goalie Shane Owen to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots.

The Mallards were helped by Thomas Frazee, who had two goals and one assist. Frazee scored the first of his two goals at 5:29 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Lee assisted on the tally. Frazee's next tally made the score 3-2 Missouri with 54 seconds left in the second period. Gabriel Levesque picked up the assist. Quad City additionally got points from Lee, who also finished with one goal and two assists. Quad City also got a goal from Matt Boyd as well. In addition, Quad City received assists from Nikiforov, Gergo Nagy, and Dieude-Fauvel, who contributed one a piece.

Missouri's Owen stopped 32 shots out of the 36 that he faced. The Mavericks registered one goal on three power play opportunities. Thomas Heemskerk rejected 32 shots on goal for Quad City. The Mallards incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
