Shawville Pontiacs survives Almonte Thunder comeback, wins 5-3

Shawville Pontiacs survived a determined comeback attempt by Almonte Thunder on the way to a 5-3 win.

A goal by Liam Poirier put Shawville Pontiacs up 5-0 in the first period, but Almonte Thunder pulled to within two on Liam Killeen's tally 18:21 into the third period.

Shawville Pontiacs forced Almonte Thunder's goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, taking 34 shots and forcing 29 saves. Dominic Plaschy made 10 stops and Alex Daley made 19. Shawville Pontiacs stifled Almonte Thunder's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Shawville Pontiacs was helped by Christopher Bones, who registered one goal. Bones scored 11:58 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Shawville Pontiacs. Dylan McNamara assisted on the tally. Shawville Pontiacs also got points from Poirier, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Lucas Driscoll-McKinnon also scored for Shawville Pontiacs. In addition, Shawville Pontiacs received assists from Isak Savard, who had two and Mackenzie Vezina, Gilmour Maurice, Julian Dumont, Alexandre Larocque, and Brady Trudeau, who contributed one a piece.

Almonte Thunder kept Shawville Pontiacs' goalie busy throughout the game, and Karsten Pankhurst made 33 saves on 36 shots.

Almonte Thunder also got a goal from Terry Mallon as well. Other players who recorded assists for Almonte Thunder were Nick Villeneuve, who had one and Kane Abbis-Mills, who had two.

Shawville Pontiacs totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 0-for-2 on the power play. Almonte Thunder totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 0-for-5 on the power play.
