Stittsville Royals vanquishes Almonte Thunder in shootout, 6-5 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Stittsville Royals defeated Almonte Thunder in a shootout 6-5 (1-0 SO).

The two teams needed six turns to complete the shootout.

Jermy Nichols had two goals to lead Stittsville Royals to victory. Nichols found the back of the net on the power play 19 seconds into the third period to make the score 4-4 and again while 12:25 into the third to make the score 5-4 Stittsville Royals.

Stittsville Royals kept Almonte Thunder's goalie busy throughout the game, and Alex Daley made 32 saves on 38 shots. Stittsville Royals could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 25 minutes in penalties during the game. The defensemen of Stittsville Royals were also effective in Almonte Thunder's zone, and came away with three goals.

Stittsville Royals also got points from Alex Bouchey, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Ryan Daniel, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Stittsville Royals also got a goal from Jesse Renaud as well. Other players who recorded assists for Stittsville Royals were Eric Malloy, who had two and Ben Wade, Joey Laird, Kyle Killeen, and Alex Perrault, who contributed one a piece.

The Almonte Thunder penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 10 minors and one major for 25 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 22.0 minutes per game Almonte Thunder had been spending in the box. Almonte Thunder forced Stittsville Royals goalie Patrick Kealey to work between the pipes, taking 44 shots.

Almonte Thunder was led by Liam Killeen, who tallied one goal and one assist. Killeen scored 9:41 into the second period to make the score 3-3. Almonte Thunder additionally got points from Kane Abbis-Mills, who also registered one goal and one assist. Garret McMullin also scored for Almonte Thunder. In addition, Almonte Thunder received assists from Luke Martin, Riley Shore, Nick Villeneuve, and Justin Marquis, who each chipped in one.
