Amherstburg outlasts Wheatley, 4-3

The Amherstburg Admirals gutted out a close 4-3 win against the Wheatley Sharks.

No lead was more than one goal during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Blake Rutckyj at 8:04 of the third period.

Amherstburg's penalty kill excelled, as the Admirals gave up zero goals despite allowing seven power plays.

Amherstburg was led by Rutckyj, who had one goal.

The Admirals stifled Wheatley's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Amherstburg also got points from Mark Sobocan, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Amherstburg also had goals scored by Brett Beattie and Chad Copeland, who each put in one. In addition, Amherstburg received assists from Dan Matoski, who had two and Cody Leeming, Kyle Morand, Ryan Jones, and Arren Romeril, who contributed one a piece.

The Sharks kept Amherstburg's goalie busy throughout the game, and Romeril made 28 saves on 31 shots.

Wheatley was helped by Scott Florence, who racked up one goal. Florence scored 16:42 into the second period to make the score 3-3. Cale Phibbs picked up the assist. Others who scored for Wheatley included Austin Thompson and Ryan Zsebok, who scored one goal each. More assists for Wheatley came via Brett Bowman, Lucas Raffoul, Austin Fontaine, Brendon Anger, and Jon Woelk, who each chipped in one.

The Admirals incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. Conner MacKinnon recorded 23 saves for the Sharks. Wheatley incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
