Dresden shrugs off penalties, upends Wallaceburg, 5-1

The Wallaceburg Lakers failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Dresden Kings shook off a number of penalties to win, 5-1.

Dresden was sparked by Dede Cato, who tallied one goal. Cato scored 7:11 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Dresden. Derek Daly picked up the assist.

The Kings put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Wallaceburg to score on any of its six power plays. Dresden's offense rang up 39 shots on the Lakers' net. The Kings got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Dresden also had goals scored by Jesse Allen, who had two and Jeff Vanrabaeys and Mike Myers, who each put in one. More assists for Dresden came via Kevin Ritzer, who had two and John Montgomery and Jeremy Griffore, who each chipped in one.

Wallaceburg's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Dresden power plays.

The Lakers were led by Lucais Meyskens, who scored the team's only goal. Meyskens scored short handed 8:53 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Wallaceburg played down a man on Mike Kindarachok's interference. Frank Saputo provided the assist.

Brent Paxton made 21 saves for Dresden on 22 shots. The Kings incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Joel Sowinski rejected 34 shots on goal for the Lakers. Wallaceburg incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
