Essex penalty kill dominates in 2-1 defeat of Amherstburg

The Amherstburg Admirals failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Essex 73s shook off a number of penalties to win, 2-1.

Essex was led by Daniel Slipchuck, who finished with one goal. Slipchuck scored on the power play 16:54 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Essex. The 73s had taken the advantage when Amherstburg's Brett Beattie got sent off for holding. Alex Garon assisted on the tally.

Essex was held below its usual level of production. The 73s average 5.3 goals per game. Essex's offense rang up 31 shots on the Admirals' net.

Jordan Ryan also scored for Essex. Other players who recorded assists for Essex were Corey Beaulieu, Tyler Scott, and Aaron Thibert, who each chipped in one.

Amherstburg's offense operated below it season average. The Admirals put an average of 3.3 pucks into the net per game.

Amherstburg was led by Mark Sobocan, who scored the team's only goal. Sobocan scored on the power play 13:57 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Amherstburg. The Admirals had gotten the advantage when the 73s' Scott Bromley was sent off for slashing. Jordan Luciw picked up the assist.

Darien Ekblad rejected 18 shots on goal for Essex. The 73s totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 2-for-6 on the power play. For Essex, Michel Popel was ejected from the game. Amherstburg's Arren Romeril stopped 29 shots out of the 31 that he faced. The Admirals incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
