Blenheim wins tough contest against Wheatley, 5-3

The Blenheim Blades gutted out a close 5-3 win against the Wheatley Sharks.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Cam Aitken's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

Aitken was all over the ice for Blenheim, as he finished with two goals in the win.

The Blades excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances.

Blenheim additionally got points from Kirk McKillop, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Drew Marlatt, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Justin Rossignol also scored for Blenheim. In addition, Blenheim received assists from Jarrod Oliphant, who had two, Dylan Muzzatti, who had three, and Ben Pataki APM, Tyler Boughner, and Derek Muzzatti, who contributed one a piece.

Wheatley stifled Blenheim's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

The Sharks were helped by Cale Phibbs, who tallied one goal. Phibbs scored 2:07 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Wheatley. Scott Florence provided the assist. Wheatley also had goals scored by Tyler Liboiron and Shawn Hope, who scored one goal each. More assists for Wheatley came via Brendon Anger, who had two and Austin Thompson and Jon Woelk, who each chipped in one.

Eric Stewardson made 26 saves for the Blades on 29 shots. Blenheim incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Conner MacKinnon recorded 24 saves for Wheatley. The Sharks incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
