Belle River holds on for 4-2 win against Mooretown

The Belle River Canadiens survived a determined comeback attempt by the Mooretown Flags on the way to a 4-2 win.

A goal by Zack Bedard put Belle River up 4-1 in the second period, but Mooretown pulled to within two on Sam McCormack's tally 4:31 into the third period.

The Canadiens got the win with help from a great game by Branden Larocque, who had one goal and two assists. Larocque scored short handed 10:59 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Belle River. Belle River found itself down a man on Kody Gagnon's cross checking. Sebastian Kanally provided the assist.

The Canadiens kept the Flags' goalie busy throughout the game, and Brandon Johnson made 31 saves on 35 shots. Belle River found itself short handed often, totaling 20 penalty minutes and allowing six power plays.

Belle River additionally got points from Brad Carroll, who also registered one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Belle River were Mike Ditty and Brian Johnson, who each chipped in one.

Mooretown did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Flags average 4.3 goals per game.

Mooretown was led by Dan Lumley, who tallied one goal and one assist. Lumley scored on the power play 12:23 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Jeff Schroeter picked up the assist.

Mitch Topliffe recorded 23 saves for the Canadiens. Belle River registered two goals on four power play opportunities. For the Canadiens, Johnson was ejected from the game. The Flags incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Mooretown ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Chad Beauchamp was ejected from the game.
