Wheatley rolls over Wallaceburg, 6-1Wallaceburg Memorial Arena Wed, Jan 08, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Wheatley Sharks had a four-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 6-1 win over the Wallaceburg Lakers. Jon Woelk quarterbacked Wheatley's offense to perfection and bagged four assists in the Sharks' win over Wallaceburg. Wheatley put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Lakers to score on any of their three power plays. The Sharks' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in three goals. Wheatley also got points from Zach Wilson, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Cale Phibbs, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Wheatley included Scott Florence, who had two and Mike Reid and Thomas Virban, who scored one goal each. In addition, Wheatley received assists from Brett Babkirk, who had two and Tyler Liboiron, Shawn Hope, Brett Bowman, and Brendon Anger, who each chipped in one. Wheatley's defense shut down Wallaceburg's forwards for much of the game, and the Lakers got off only 13 shots during the contest. Wallaceburg was led by Justin Whitson, who scored the team's only goal. Whitson scored 15:22 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Wheatley. Scott Lubbers provided the assist. Everitt Omstead rejected 12 shots on goal for the Sharks. Wheatley incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Joel Sowinski took the loss and made nine saves before being replaced by Ben Vankessel who made two saves. The Lakers incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. |
