Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Mooretown Flags defeated the Amherstburg Admirals in a shootout 4-3 (1-0 SO). The shootout lasted for five attempts between the teams.Mooretown nearly gave up a three-score lead. The Flags made the score 4-1 on a goal by Jeff Schroeter at 15:04 in the third period. Amherstburg got to within 4-3 on a goal by Dan Matoski at 17:32 in the third period. In a losing effort, the Admirals were led by Brett Beattie, who registered two goals. Beattie scored the first of his two goals at 4:57 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Mooretown. Curtis Prymack provided the assist. Beattie's next tally made the score 4-2 Mooretown with 2:44 left in the third period. Mooretown's offense rang up 40 shots on Amherstburg's net. The Flags were helped by Dan Lumley, who finished with one goal. Lumley scored 4:08 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Mooretown. Sam Jasmin picked up the assist. Ryan Lyle also scored for Mooretown. In addition, Mooretown received assists from McGregor Haddon, Brandon Layman, and Brett Thompson, who each chipped in one. The Admirals kept Mooretown's goalie busy throughout the game, and Brandon Johnson made 37 saves on 40 shots. Other players who recorded assists for Amherstburg were Mark Sobocan, Blake Rutckyj, and Colin Hamilton, who contributed one a piece. The Flags incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Arren Romeril rejected 36 shots on goal for Amherstburg. The Admirals incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors. |
