Mooretown's comeback falls short, Alvinston wins 7-6Mooretown Rink 1 Sat, Dec 21, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Mooretown Flags almost clawed their way back from a three-goal deficit, but the Alvinston Flyers managed to pull out a 7-6 win in the end. Alvinston led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Flyers' Dylan Lightfoot's scored on the power play at 15:11 in the second period to put Alvinston up 5-2. The Flyers was paced on offense by Dan Warner and Chad Rainsberry, who combined for five points. Warner registered two goals and one assist and Rainsberry also notched one goal and one assist. Alvinston put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Mooretown to score on any of its three power plays. The Flyers kept the Flags' goalie busy throughout the game, and Brandon Johnson made 26 saves on 33 shots. Alvinston outdid its season average for goals scored. The Flyers average 4.4 goals per game. Alvinston additionally got points from Karsten Berg, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Zach VanEyk, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Sam Vokes, who also had one goal and two assists, and Rainsberry, who also registered one goal and one assist. In addition, Alvinston received assists from Chad Vaneyk, who had three and Sam MacGee, Tyler Kettler, and Joe Archer, who each chipped in one. Alvinston was unable to stop Mooretown from sending pucks towards the net, and the Flags eventually piled up 42 shots on goal. Penalties took their toll on Mooretown, as its penalty kill unit let in three power play goals. The Flags were helped by Dan Lumley, who registered two goals. Lumley scored the first of his two goals at 1:18 into the third period to make the score 6-5 Alvinston. McGregor Haddon picked up the assist. Lumley's next tally made the score 7-6 Alvinston with 2:13 left in the third period. Sam Jasmin provided the assist. Mooretown also got points from Haddon, who also tallied one goal and two assists, Brandon Layman, who also had one goal and one assist, and Brett Thompson, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Mooretown also got a goal from Jeff Schroeter as well. More assists for Mooretown came via Ryan Jennings, Sam McCormack, and Matt Brandon, who contributed one a piece. The Flyers' Brad Jacklin stopped 36 shots out of the 42 that he faced. Alvinston incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Mooretown incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. |
