Blenheim survives Alvinston comeback, wins 5-3

The Blenheim Blades came close to giving away a four-goal lead to the Alvinston Flyers, but did just enough to escape with a 5-3 victory.

Blenheim led by four goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Blades' Cam Aitken's scored at 10:22 in the second period to put Blenheim up 4-0.

Aitken had two goals to lead the Blades to victory.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 11:15 into the third period. Twenty-four fighting penalties were dished out along with 23 game misconducts.

Both goalies were tossed from the game during the major incident in the third period.

The Blenheim penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled four minors and six majors for 38 minutes in penalty time. The Blades surpassed its season average of 15.0 penalty minutes per game. Blenheim forced Alvinston's netminders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, taking 31 shots and forcing 26 saves. Brett Avery made 23 stops and chad vaneyk made three.

Blenheim additionally got points from Kirk McKillop, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Zack Horvath, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Blenheim also got a goal from Corbin Hagerman as well. Other players who recorded assists for Blenheim were Mitch OHanley, Zach Mailloux, and Ben Pataki APM, who each chipped in one.

The Flyers made the Blades' goalies to work between the pipes, firing 37 shots and forcing 34 saves. Dylan Vanderpol made 32 stops and Eric Stewardson made two. Alvinston struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 35 penalty minutes for one opposing power play.

The Flyers were helped by Dan Warner, who tallied one goal. Warner scored 16:07 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Blenheim. Joe Archer assisted on the tally. Alvinston also got points from Tyler Kettler, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Zach VanEyk also scored for Alvinston. In addition, Alvinston received assists from Sam Vokes, who had one and Dylan Lightfoot, who had two.

Team's OHanley, Dylan Muzzatti, Tyler Boughner, Derek Muzzatti, Ty Scratch, and Vanderpol were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Alvinston registered one goal on four power play opportunities. For the Flyers, Avery, Dylan Ryan, Jeremy VanDeven, Brett Duncan, Jake McPhail, and Kole Keating were ejected from the contest.
