Amherstburg wins tough contest against Belle River, 6-5

The Amherstburg Admirals and the Belle River Canadiens were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Amherstburg made the most of its opportunities and won, 6-5.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Blake Rutckyj secured the win for the Admirals with a goal in the third period.

Amherstburg was sparked by Rutckyj, who grabbed one goal. Rutckyj scored short handed 9:13 into the third period to make the score 6-5 Amherstburg. The Admirals were on a disadvantage when Chad Copeland went off the ice for bench / coach.

In a losing effort, Belle River was led by Evan Makaric, who finished with two goals. Makaric scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 16:07 into the second period to make the score 4-4. A inciting an opponent penalty on Zack Brown had put the Canadiens on the power play. Branden Larocque picked up the assist. Makaric's next tally on the power play made the score 5-5 with 11:05 left in the third period. Belle River had gotten the advantage when Amherstburg's Kyler Carter was sent off for interference. Tyler Snyder provided the assist.

The Admirals got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed three goals during the game. Amherstburg was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 44 penalty minutes.

Amherstburg also got a goal from Steven Spada as well. Other players who recorded assists for Amherstburg were Mark Sobocan, Ryan Jones, Josh Laframboise, Thomas Eady, and Brett Beattie, who each chipped in one.

The Canadiens' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Amherstburg power plays. The Admirals were unable to stop Belle River from sending pucks towards the net, and the Canadiens eventually piled up 34 shots on goal. Belle River's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Belle River also got points from Larocque, who also registered one goal and one assist and James Shelton, who also had one goal and one assist. Hunter Corp also scored for Belle River. In addition, Belle River received assists from Tyler Turner, Ryan Alexander, Brenden Crundwell, Connor Goodchild, and Jordan Luciw, who contributed one a piece.

Klinton Kenney recorded 29 saves for Amherstburg. The Admirals ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Brown was ejected from the game. Scott Tricker made 12 saves before being replaced by Adam Leboeuf, who took the loss and made seven saves. The Canadiens incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
