GAME RECAP

Amherstburg uses shootout to best Mooretown, 2-1 (2-0 SO)

Libro Centre    Sun, Oct 27, 2013

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Amherstburg Admirals defeated the Mooretown Flags in a shootout 2-1 (2-0 SO).

The two teams needed five turns to complete the shootout. In addition to the clincher, Amherstburg got a shootout goal from Dan Matoski.

The Admirals excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Amherstburg forced Mooretown goalie Brandon Johnson to work between the pipes, taking 49 shots.

The Admirals were led by James Brooks, who registered one goal. Brooks scored on the power play 17:58 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Amherstburg. Amherstburg had gotten the advantage when the Flags' Brad Campbell was sent off for head contact.

Mooretown was held below its usual level of production. The Flags put an average of 4.3 pucks into the net per game. Mooretown struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 28 penalty minutes for 10 opposing power plays.

The Flags were led by Dan Lumley, who scored the team's only goal. Lumley scored 6:38 into the third period to make the score 1-1. Chad Beauchamp picked up the assist.
