Mooretown's comeback falls short, Essex wins 8-6

The Essex 73s, who led by three goals at one point, survived a comeback attempt by Essex and clinched an 8-6 victory.

The 73s led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when Essex's Tyler Scott's scored at 4:07 in the second period to put the 73s up 4-1.

Alex Garon was all over the ice for Essex, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Garon scored the first of his two goals at 17 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Essex. Corey Beaulieu picked up the assist. Garon's next tally made the score 7-6 Essex with 3:17 left in the third period. The 73s played down a man on Chad Hedrick's interference.

The Mooretown Flags were doomed by their poor performance on special teams, as Essex was able to score four times while on the power play.

Mooretown was unable to stop the 73s from sending pucks towards the net, and Essex eventually piled up 48 shots on goal. The 73s struggled on the penalty kill, allowing the Flags to score three power play goals on five chances. Essex's defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. The 73s are averaging 2.3 goals against for the season. Essex got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed three goals during the game.

Others who scored for Essex included Dylan Solecki, who had two and Tyler Raymont, Dan Mainella, and Aaron Thibert, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Essex were Daniel Slipchuck, who had two and Brett Clarke and Jordan Ryan, who each chipped in one.

The defensemen of Mooretown were also effective in the 73s' zone, and came away with two goals.

The Flags were led by Brett Thompson, who had two goals. Thompson scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 9:45 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Essex. Mooretown had gotten the advantage when Essex's Raymont was sent off for cross checking. Dan Lumley assisted on the tally. Thompson's next tally on the power play made the score 5-4 Mooretown with 8:52 left in the second period. Brandon Layman provided the assist. Mooretown additionally got points from Layman, who also registered one goal and one assist and David Addley, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Jordan McBeath also scored for Mooretown. In addition, Mooretown received assists from Jeff Schroeter, who had one and Sam McCormack, who had three.

The 73s took out Jacob Kment after he had made eight saves and installed Arren Romeril in goal, where he finished with 13 saves and the win. Essex incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Flags' Brandon Johnson stopped 40 shots out of the 48 that he faced. Mooretown ended with 21 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and one major. For the Flags, Schroeter was ejected from the game.
