Napanee vanquishes Port Hope in shootout, 6-5 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Napanee Raiders defeated the Port Hope Panthers in a shootout 6-5 (2-1 SO).

The shootout featured five attempts between both teams. Port Hope got a shootout goal from Tyler Davey. Napanee also got a shootout goal from Tyler Romain.

The Raiders saw a two-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. Napanee made the score 5-3 on a goal by Romain at 15:16 in the third period. The Panthers evened things up at 5-5 on a goal by Jared Boomhower at 19:16 in the third period.

The Raiders were led by Austin Boulard, who racked up one goal and one assist. Boulard scored on the power play 18:28 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Napanee. A tripping penalty on Dylan Baxter had put Napanee on the power play. Romain assisted on the tally.

Napanee also got points from Ryan Casselman, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Romain, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Napanee included Bud Norris and Joel Ferland, who scored one goal each. In addition, Napanee received assists from Keenan Murray, who had three and Zach Knapp-Hermer and Jordan Cannons, who contributed one a piece.

Port Hope additionally got points from Chandler Gillespie, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Port Hope also had goals scored by Dan Lagrois and Mike Smith, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Port Hope were Brandon Durst, Tanner Bowditch, and Chays Ruddy, who each chipped in one and Jacob Spicer and Davey, who contributed two a piece.

Kyle Copeland made 14 saves for the Raiders on 19 shots. Napanee incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Raiders ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Boulard was ejected from the game. Branson Schell rejected 20 shots on goal for Port Hope. The Panthers incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
