Napanee uses shootout to best Picton, 4-3 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Napanee Raiders defeated the Picton Pirates in a shootout 4-3 (1-0 SO).

The two teams needed five turns to complete the shootout.

In a losing effort, Picton was sparked by Ryan Sizer, who finished with two goals. Sizer scored the first of his two goals at 19:59 into the first period to make the score 2-2. Corey Prince picked up the assist. Sizer's next tally made the score 3-3 with 4:49 left in the third period. Brian Bunnett assisted on the tally.

In the losing effort, the Pirates were led by Sizer, who grabbed two goals.

Napanee excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Raiders' offense rang up 40 shots on Picton's net.

Napanee was helped by Austin Boulard, who tallied one goal. Boulard scored 16:26 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Napanee. Ryan Casselman picked up the assist. Napanee also had goals scored by Bud Norris and Tyler Romain, who scored one goal each. More assists for Napanee came via Troy Wylie, who had two and Joel Ferland and Evan Brown, who each chipped in one.

The Pirates' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Napanee power plays. Picton was held below its usual level of production. The Pirates average 5.8 goals per game. Picton kept the Raiders' goalie busy throughout the game, and Kyle Copeland made 29 saves on 32 shots. The Pirates' defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. Picton gives up 1.6 goal per game.

Others who scored for Picton included #$self.jersey, who each put in one. In addition, Picton received assists from Kenny Murduff and Evan Greer, who contributed one a piece.

Napanee incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Adam Wood recorded 36 saves for the Pirates. Picton incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
