Picton squeaks by Campbellford, 5-3Campbellford-Seymour CC Sat, Jan 11, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The game between the Picton Pirates and the Campbellford Rebels was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Picton emerged with a 5-3 win. Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Evan Greer's goal in the second period proved to be the difference maker. The Pirates were led by Greer, who had one goal. Greer scored 19:35 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Picton. Brian Bunnett provided the assist. Picton forced Campbellford goalie Cole Mahoney to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots. The Pirates got their opportunities on the power play, but did not convert any of their nine chances. Picton found itself short handed often, totaling 56 penalty minutes and allowing 11 power plays. Picton also got points from Kenny Murduff, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Picton also had goals scored by Steven Clarke, Nolan Van Vlack, and Griffin McCarty, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Picton were Brandon Peever, Devin McCann, and Corey Prince, who contributed one a piece. The Rebels stifled the Pirates' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Campbellford kept Picton's goalie busy throughout the game, and Adam Wood made 30 saves on 33 shots. The Rebels could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 48 minutes in penalties during the game. Campbellford was helped by Andrew Doxtator, who racked up one goal and one assist. Doxtator scored on the power play 16:25 into the second period to make the score 3-3. The Rebels had gained a power play chance when Murduff was whistled for cross checking. Ryan Crowley picked up the assist. Campbellford additionally got points from Andy Paul, who also registered one goal and one assist. Campbellford also got a goal from Cole Hamilton as well. More assists for Campbellford came via Joshua Leavey, who had one. Campbellford's Mahoney stopped 34 shots out of the 39 that he faced.
