Port Hope holds on for 4-3 win against DeserontoDeseronto & District CC Fri, Dec 13, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Deseronto Storm tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Port Hope Panthers would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-3. Port Hope took a 4-1 lead during the third period, only to have Deseronto storm back on a Johnny Maracle goal 16:35 into the third period to pull to one goal down. The Panthers' penalty kill excelled, as Port Hope gave up zero goals despite allowing seven power plays. The Panthers stifled the Storm's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Port Hope forced Deseronto goalie Matt Lovelys to work between the pipes, taking 47 shots. The Panthers were helped by Ryan Wilkinson, who racked up one goal. Wilkinson scored 6:24 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Port Hope. Port Hope also had goals scored by Riley Turland, Tyler Davey, and Chandler Gillespie, who scored one goal each. More assists for Port Hope came via Kyle Sullivan, Dylan Baxter, Tanner Bowditch, Chris Roy, and Mike Smith, who contributed one a piece. The Storm put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Port Hope to score on any of its six power plays. Deseronto kept the Panthers' goalie busy throughout the game, and Brandon Green made 41 saves on 44 shots. Deseronto also got a goal from Josh Cameron as well. In addition, Deseronto received assists from Tyson OToole, Brandon Turner, and Tyler Diamond, who each chipped in one. Port Hope incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Lovelys rejected 43 shots on goal for the Storm. Deseronto incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
