Picton beats Napanee 7-4 as Clarke gets hat trick

The Napanee Raiders could not stop the Picton Pirates' Steven Clarke, who tallied a hat trick in a 7-4 win.

Clarke notched his first tally 2:09 into the first period. He then added goals at 14:46 into the first and at 12:14 into the second.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 10:22 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Picton penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled six minors and one major for 17 minutes in penalty time. The Pirates had been averaging 12.0 minutes in penalties per game. Napanee was unable to stop Picton from sending pucks towards the net, and the Pirates eventually piled up 41 shots on goal. Picton's defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. The Pirates average 1.5 goal allowed per game. Picton was effective with a man advantage, and put in two goals while on the power play. The Pirates got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed three goals during the game.

Picton also got points from Chris Jones, who also tallied two goals and two assists to lead the team in points. Picton also had goals scored by Jack Davison and Clint Aussprung, who scored one goal each. More assists for Picton came via Kenny Murduff, who had two and Nolan Powers, Devin McCann, Evan Greer, and Griffin McCarty, who contributed one a piece.

The Raiders were helped by Bud Norris, who had two goals. Norris scored the first of his two goals at 5:24 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Chad McCutcheon assisted on the tally. Norris' next tally made the score 6-4 Picton with 2:24 left in the third period. Napanee had taken the advantage when Picton's Taylor Brown got sent off for high sticking. Jake Falcao picked up the assist. Napanee additionally got points from Keenan Murray, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Josh Murphy APM, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Napanee were Pascal DiRocco, Blade Grigg, Ryan Casselman, and Will Peirson, who each chipped in one.

Andrew Pearson made 17 saves for the Pirates on 21 shots. Picton ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Brandon Peever was ejected from the game. Kyle Copeland rejected 34 shots on goal for the Raiders. Napanee totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play. For the Raiders, McCutcheon was ejected from the game.
