Yake's hat trick boosts Amherstview over Deseronto, 10-1

Brett Yake netted a hat trick to lead the Amherstview Jets over the Deseronto Storm, 10-1.

Yake got on the scoresheet 7:42 into the first period. He then added goals at 13:45 into the first and at 6:09 into the third.

Deseronto trailed by one after the first period, but Amherstview went into the second intermission with a 5-1 lead and never looked back.

The Jets' Trpy Paquette was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 27 saves and let only one puck past him. Paquette certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.09 entering the contest.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 7:13 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Amherstview kept the Storm's goalie busy throughout the game, and Brock Tufts made 35 saves on 45 shots. The Jets found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Amherstview averages 4.5 goals per game. The Jets capitalized on Deseronto's penalties, netting five goals while skating with a man advantage. Amherstview's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Jets finished with 19 penalty minutes.

Amherstview additionally got points from Cody Jodoin, who also finished with one goal and two assists and Ben Bianco, who also registered two goals and one assist. Amherstview also had goals scored by Ryan Poirier, who had one and Zach Masterson, who had three. In addition, Amherstview received assists from Cassidy Bruni, who had four, Rhys Webster, Mark Christensen, and Dustin Kennedy, who each chipped in one, and Brody Taylor, Cody Stapley, and Josh Leblanc, who contributed two a piece.

The Storm were often in penalty trouble, totaling 12 minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. Deseronto surpassed its season average of 22.0 penalty minutes per game.

The Storm were led by Mitch Goodfellow, who scored the team's only goal. Goodfellow scored on the power play 15:41 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Amherstview. Deseronto earned a power play opportunity when Jodoin was put in the box for high sticking. Devim MacLean provided the assist.

Amherstview ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jaylon Gorman was ejected from the game. The Storm registered one goal on four power play opportunities. For Deseronto, Goodfellow was ejected from the game.
