Jones' goals lift Picton to 4-0 victory over Campbellford

Chris Jones had two goals to lead the Picton Pirates to a 4-0 victory over the Campbellford Rebels.

Jones scored at 2:11 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Picton and again while 7:04 into the second to make the score 2-0 Picton.

Picton was boosted by Andrew Pearson, who turned in a shutout with 27 saves. Pearson certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 1.78 entering the contest.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 5:55 into the third period. Eight fighting penalties were dished out along with six game misconducts.

The Pirates racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with six minors and two majors for 52 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 13.0 minutes per game Picton had been spending in the box. The Pirates stifled Campbellford's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Picton's offense rang up 42 shots on the Rebels' net.

Picton also got points from Ryan Sizer, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Evan Greer also scored for Picton. More assists for Picton came via Kenny Murduff, who had one and Brandon Peever and Brian Bunnett, who contributed two a piece.

Campbellford was often in penalty trouble, totaling six minors and two majors for 52 minutes in penalty time. The Rebels surpassed its season average of 18.0 penalty minutes per game. Campbellford was held below its usual level of production. The Rebels average 3.8 goals per game.

The Pirates registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. For Picton, Bunnett and Greer were ejected from the contest. Cole Mahoney recorded 38 saves for Campbellford. The Rebels registered zero goals on seven power play opportunities. Team's Matt Laidley and jeremy dorghty were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
