Amherstview uses shootout to best Port Hope, 2-1 (2-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Amherstview Jets defeated the Port Hope Panthers in a shootout 2-1 (2-0 SO).

The two teams needed four turns to complete the shootout. Amherstview's other shootout goal was scored by Josh Leblanc.

The Jets came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Amherstview trailed 1-0 after a goal by Port Hope's Chandler Gillespie at 12:02 in the third period. The Jets knotted things up at 1-1 on a goal by Zach Masterson at 13:07 in the third period.

Amherstview's Trpy Paquette was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 43 saves and let only one puck past him. Paquette certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.18 entering the contest.

The Jets stifled the Panthers' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Amherstview forced Port Hope goalie Branson Schell to work between the pipes, taking 42 shots. The Jets could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 36 minutes in penalties during the game.

More assists for Amherstview came via Leblanc, who had one.

The Panthers excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Port Hope could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Panthers put an average of 3.5 pucks into the net per game. Port Hope's offense rang up 44 shots on Amherstview's net.

In addition, Port Hope received assists from Mike Smith, who had one.

The Panthers' Schell stopped 40 shots out of the 41 that he faced. Port Hope incurred 32 minutes in penalty time with 11 minors.
