Picton shrugs off penalties, upends Port Hope, 3-1

The Port Hope Panthers failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Picton Pirates shook off a number of penalties to win, 3-1.

Picton was sparked by Chris Jones, who had one goal. Jones scored 11:18 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Picton. Nolan Van Vlack provided the assist.

The Pirates could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Picton averages 5.5 goals per game. The Pirates' offense rang up 33 shots on Port Hope's net.

Picton also got a goal from Jack Davison as well. More assists for Picton came via Corey Prince, who had one.

The Panthers excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Port Hope's offense operated below it season average. The Panthers put an average of 4.1 pucks into the net per game.

Port Hope was led by Dan Lagrois, who scored the team's only goal. Lagrois scored on the power play 8:06 into the third period to make the score 1-1. The Panthers had gained a power play chance when Ryan Sizer was whistled for high sticking. Matt Trudel picked up the assist.

Picton's Andrew Pearson stopped 16 shots out of the 17 that he faced. The Pirates incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Branson Schell rejected 30 shots on goal for Port Hope. The Panthers incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
