Amherstview wins tough contest against Campbellford, 4-3

The Amherstview Jets and the Campbellford Rebels were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Amherstview made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-3.

The Jets gained the winning advantage on a goal by Brett Yake 11:21 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

Amherstview was paced by Yake, who grabbed one goal.

Amherstview also got points from Zach Masterson, who also registered one goal and one assist and Josh Leblanc, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Amherstview also got a goal from Cassidy Bruni as well. In addition, Amherstview received assists from Jesse Stone and Adam Alcorn, who contributed one a piece.

Campbellford forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. The Rebels surpassed its season average of 19.0 penalty minutes per game. Campbellford excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. The Rebels kept the Jets' goalie busy throughout the game, and Trpy Paquette made 31 saves on 34 shots.

Campbellford was helped by Andy Paul, who finished with one goal. Paul scored 4:31 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Campbellford. Jon Samis provided the assist. Cole Hamilton also scored for Campbellford. More assists for Campbellford came via Ryan Crowley, Derek Shields, Matt Scott, and Mitchell Merry, who each chipped in one.

Amherstview incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. The Jets ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Ryan Poirier was ejected from the game. Kevin Valdas made 26 saves for the Rebels on 30 shots. Campbellford registered one goal on five power play opportunities. For the Rebels, Mitch Burke was ejected from the game.
