Port Hope beats Deseronto 9-2 as Gillespie gets hat trick

Chandler Gillespie netted a hat trick to lead the Port Hope Panthers over the Deseronto Storm, 9-2.

Gillespie's first goal came 3:36 into the first period. He then added goals at 1:44 into the second and at 12:51 into the third.

Port Hope pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 16 penalty minutes.

The Panthers excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. Port Hope's offense rang up 56 shots on Deseronto's net. The Panthers' goal total was higher than their season average. Port Hope has scored at the pace of 4.4 goals per game during the current campaign.

Port Hope also got points from Kyle Sullivan, who also racked up one goal and two assists, Jacob Spicer, who also tallied one goal and three assists, Dylan Baxter, who also registered one goal and two assists, Dan Lagrois, who also had two goals and two assists, and Mike Smith, who also racked up one goal and one assist. In addition, Port Hope received assists from Connor Turland and Riley Turland, who each chipped in one.

The Storm kept the Panthers' goalie busy throughout the game, and Branson Schell made 33 saves on 35 shots.

Port Hope registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. Deseronto's Brock Tufts stopped 47 shots out of the 56 that he faced. The Storm incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
