Picton holds on for 5-3 win against NapaneeStrathcona Paper Sat, Oct 19, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Napanee Raiders tried to dig themselves out of a five-goal hole, but the Picton Pirates held on for a 5-3 victory. A goal by Ryan Sizer put Picton up 5-0 in the third period, but Napanee pulled to within two on Blade Grigg's tally 17:39 into the third period. The Pirates got the win behind a great game by Sizer, who had two goals and two assists. Sizer scored the first of his two goals at 7:45 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Picton. Nolan Powers picked up the assist. Sizer's next tally made the score Picton with 14:08 left in the third period. Jack Davison provided the assist. Picton racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 12 minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 12.0 minutes per game the Pirates had been spending in the box. Picton forced the Raiders goalie Josh Lasher to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots. The Pirates excelled on the penalty kill, only allowing Napanee to get one power play goal on 11 chances. Picton additionally got points from Evan Greer, who also grabbed two goals and one assist. Picton also got a goal from Corey Prince as well. Other players who recorded assists for Picton were Brandon Peever, who had one and Brian Bunnett, who had two. The Raiders' offense operated below they season average. Napanee averages 5.2 goals per game. The Raiders struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 18 penalty minutes for five opposing power plays. Jordan Cannons also scored for Napanee. In addition, Napanee received assists from Alex Leclerc, who had two and Joel Ferland and Zach Knapp-Hermer, who contributed one a piece. Andrew Pearson recorded 17 saves for Picton. For the Pirates, Greer and Taylor Brown were ejected from the contest. Lasher rejected 32 shots on goal for Napanee.
