Amherstview beats Deseronto 5-0 as Paquette gains shutout

The Amherstview Jets used a sparkling performance by Trpy Paquette to take down the Deseronto Storm, as the netminder did not allow a goal in Amherstview's 5-0 shutout victory.

The Jets were sparked by Ryan Poirier, who racked up one goal. Poirier scored 12:30 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Amherstview. Cassidy Bruni assisted on the tally.

Amherstview's defensive effort looked to be improved. The Jets average 2.9 goals allowed per game. Amherstview kept Deseronto's goalie busy throughout the game, and Shaun Hadley made 32 saves on 37 shots.

Amherstview additionally got points from Josh Leblanc, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Amherstview included Cody Stapley, who had one and Zach Masterson, who had two. In addition, Amherstview received assists from Rhys Webster, who had two and Brody Taylor and Dustin Kennedy, who each chipped in one.

The Storm managed to stay out of the box better than usual, racking up one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Deseronto finished below its season average of 25.0 penalty minutes per game. The Jets were unable to stop the Storm from sending pucks towards the net, and Deseronto eventually piled up 36 shots on goal.

Paquette rejected 36 shots on goal for Amherstview. The Jets totaled seven minutes in penalty time with one minor and one major and went 1-for-1 on the power play. Amherstview ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jesse Stone was ejected from the game. The Storm registered zero goals on two power play opportunities.
