Port Hope vanquishes Amherstview in shootout, 3-2 (2-1 SO)Empire Jr. C Sun, Sep 29, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Port Hope Panthers defeated the Amherstview Jets in a shootout 3-2 (2-1 SO). The shootout featured 16 attempts between both teams. Amherstview's shootout goal was scored by Cassidy Bruni. Port Hope's other shootout goal was scored by Dylan Baxter.The Panthers came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Port Hope trailed 2-1 after a power play goal by the Jets' Brett Yake at 1:26 in the second period. The Panthers knotted things up at 2-2 on a goal by Baxter at 10:22 in the second period. Port Hope pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 28 penalty minutes. The Panthers forced Amherstview goalie Trpy Paquette to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots. Jacob Spicer also scored for Port Hope. In addition, Port Hope received assists from Kyle Sullivan, Tyler Davey, Dan Lagrois, and Andrew Oelkers, who each chipped in one. The Jets excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Amherstview's offense rang up 40 shots on Port Hope's net. The Jets were helped by Ryan Poirier, who had one goal. Poirier scored 19:17 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Brody Taylor assisted on the tally. Other players who recorded assists for Amherstview were Jaylon Gorman, Zach Masterson, and Bruni, who contributed one a piece. Branson Schell rejected 38 shots on goal for the Panthers. Trpy Paquette made 28 saves for Amherstview on 30 shots. The Jets incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
