Napanee pulls away in second, rolls over Deseronto, 10-4

The Napanee Raiders scored five goals in the second period to pull away from the Deseronto Storm and clinch a 10-4 win.

Tyler Romain had two goals and two assists to lead Napanee. Romain scored the first of his two goals short handed at 19:11 into the first period to make the score 4-3 Napanee. The Raiders were on a disadvantage when Blade Grigg went off the ice for interference. Austin Boulard provided the assist. Romain's next tally short handed made the score 6-3 Napanee with 13:03 left in the second period. A slashing call on Josh St.Peter put Napanee on the penalty kill. Boulard assisted on the tally.

The Raiders made Deseronto's goaltenders to work in net, racking up 81 shots and forcing 71 saves. Brock Tufts made 28 stops and Shaun Hadley made 43. Napanee's goal total was higher than its season average. This season, the Raiders average 5.0 goals per contest. Napanee was ineffective while on the power play, as it was held to one goal off of nine man advantages.

Napanee also got points from St.Peter, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Napanee also had goals scored by Kyle Murphy, who had two, Bud Norris, who had three, and Pascal DiRocco and Josh Murphy APM, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Napanee were Jake Falcao, who had two, Matt Marino and Alex Leclerc, who each chipped in one, and Ryan Casselman and Jordan Cannons, who contributed three a piece.

The Storm were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 24 penalty minutes.

Deseronto was helped by Brett Maracle, who had one goal. Maracle scored 3:21 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Deseronto. Jared Boomhower picked up the assist. Others who scored for Deseronto included Mitch Burkitt, who had one and Brandon Turner, who had two. In addition, Deseronto received assists from Kirby Maracle, Chris Rogalsky, Bobby Breadman, and nick ferguson, who each chipped in one.

Kyle Copeland made four saves before being replaced by Josh Lasher, who took the win and made 17 saves. The Raiders incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Storm registered one goal on three power play opportunities. For Deseronto, Maracle was ejected from the game.
