Picton holds on for 6-5 win against Amherstview

The Amherstview Jets tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Picton Pirates would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 6-5.

Picton made the score 6-4 on a goal by Jack Davison at 15:41 in the third period, and Amherstview got as close as 6-5 when Josh Leblanc scored 19:21 into the third period.

Evan Greer was all over the ice for the Pirates, as he tallied one goal and four assists in the win. Greer scored on the power play 35 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Picton. A high sticking penalty on Jesse Stone had put Picton on the power play. Davison assisted on the tally.

The Jets were unable to stop the Pirates from sending pucks towards the net, and Picton eventually piled up 40 shots on goal. The Pirates' defense was uncharacteristically lax during the game. Picton gives up 2.4 goals per game. The Pirates took advantage of Amherstview's penalties, tallying three goals off of four power play opportunities.

Picton also got points from Davison, who also had one goal and one assist, Brian Bunnett, who also finished with one goal and three assists, and Ryan Sizer, who also grabbed one goal and two assists. Levi George also scored for Picton.

The Jets' offense rang up 34 shots on Picton's net.

Amherstview was led by Cassidy Bruni, who registered two goals and one assist. Bruni scored the first of his two goals at 16:59 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Picton. Leblanc provided the assist. Bruni's next tally made the score 4-4 with 10:51 left in the third period. The Jets had taken the advantage when the Pirates' Devin McCann got sent off for slashing. Mark Christensen assisted on the tally. Amherstview additionally got points from Zach Masterson, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Leblanc, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Amherstview also got a goal from Ben Bianco as well. In addition, Amherstview received assists from Cody Jodoin, Cody Stapley, and Dustin Kennedy, who contributed one a piece.

Andrew Pearson made 29 saves for Picton on 34 shots. The Pirates incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Amherstview's Trpy Paquette stopped 34 shots out of the 40 that he faced. The Jets incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
