Amherstview wins tough contest against Campbellford, 4-2Empire Jr. C Sun, Sep 15, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Amherstview Jets gutted out a close 4-2 win against the Campbellford Rebels. Amherstview gained the winning advantage on a goal by Brett Yake 15:03 into the second period and hung on until final buzzer. The Jets were led by Yake, who registered one goal and one assist. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 16:32 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. Amherstview kept Campbellford's goalie busy throughout the game, and Cole Mahoney made 34 saves on 38 shots. Amherstview additionally got points from Cassidy Bruni, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Cody Jodoin also scored for Amherstview. In addition, Amherstview received assists from Josh Leblanc, who had three and Jesse Stone and Zach Masterson, who contributed one a piece. The Rebels forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and one major for 39 minutes in penalty time. Campbellford surpassed its season average of 19.0 penalty minutes per game. The Jets totaled 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-8 on the power play. For Amherstview, Kyle Pengelly was ejected from the game. Campbellford registered one goal on four power play opportunities. The Rebels ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Gibson was ejected from the game.
