Uxbridge hangs on, beats Clarington 3-1

Carter Vahey gave the Uxbridge Bruins the lead in the first period, and the Clarington Eagles was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 3-1.

Uxbridge took over the lead for good with a goal by Vahey at 14:16 in the first period. Jason Simmonds assisted on the tally.

The Bruins were led by goalie Cody Northover, who finished with 35 saves while allowing one goal. The solid play of Northover will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 3.29.

Uxbridge pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 28 penalty minutes.

The Bruins stifled Clarington's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Uxbridge was led by Marco Mastrangelo, who registered one goal and one assist. Mastrangelo scored 59 seconds into the second period to make the score 2-0 Uxbridge. Matt Trudel provided the assist. Korey Brand also scored for Uxbridge.

The Eagles could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Clarington puts an average of 3.8 pucks into the net per game. The Bruins were unable to stop the Eagles from sending pucks towards the net, and Clarington eventually piled up 36 shots on goal. The Eagles was shut out on the power play, going scoring scoreless on 12 chances with a man advantage.

Clarington was led by Jesse Hewak, who scored the team's only goal. Hewak scored 17:48 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Uxbridge. Mitchell Burghardt assisted on the tally.

Uxbridge registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Connor Visca made 22 saves for the Eagles on 25 shots. Clarington incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
