Clarington survives Port Perry comeback, wins 3-1

The Port Perry Mojacks tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Clarington Eagles held on for a 3-1 victory.

Clarington made the score 3-0 on a goal by Riley OConnell at 19:06 in the second period, and Port Perry got as close as 3-1 when Lee Taylor scored 18:33 into the third period.

The Mojacks were stymied by the Eagles netminder CJ Sharp, who stopped 30 shots during the victory. Sharp managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.33 prior to the game.

Clarington forced Port Perry goalie Jeff Julien to work between the pipes, taking 43 shots.

The Eagles were helped by Brent Hambly, who racked up one goal. Hambly scored 29 seconds into the second period to make the score 2-0 Clarington. Mitchell Burghardt provided the assist. Clarington additionally got points from OConnell, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Clarington also got a goal from Rory Craddock as well. In addition, Clarington received assists from Thomas Garrity, who had two and Chris Turner and Cody Kean, who contributed one a piece.

The Mojacks put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Clarington to score on any of its five power plays. Port Perry's offense operated below it season average. The Mojacks put an average of 3.5 pucks into the net per game. Port Perry's offense rang up 31 shots on the Eagles' net.

More assists for Port Perry came via Conner Shingler and Kyle Powell, who each chipped in one.

Clarington incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Julien recorded 40 saves for the Mojacks. Port Perry incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
