Lakefield holds on for 6-5 win against Little Britain

The Lakefield Chiefs survived a determined comeback attempt by the Little Britain Merchants on the way to a 6-5 win.

Lakefield took a 6-4 lead during the third period, only to have Little Britain storm back on a Mitch Brown goal 18:13 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

Derek Manley was all over the ice for the Chiefs, as he finished with two goals in the win. Manley scored at 2:12 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Lakefield and again while 17:39 into the second to make the score 2-2.

Lakefield's offense rang up 39 shots on the Merchants' net. The Chiefs gave up more goals than its normal season average. Lakefield gives up 2.5 goals per game. The Chiefs were held back by their power play unit, which tallied one goal on 10 chances. Lakefield could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 38 minutes in penalties during the game.

Lakefield also got points from Jordan Walsh, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Nathan Larson, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Lakefield included Bryce Sweeting and Devin Gilbert, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Lakefield were Eric Oosting, who had two and Ryan Anderson, Jesse Gregory, and Keenan Runnalls, who each chipped in one.

Little Britain outdid its season average for goals scored. The Merchants have scored at the pace of 2.9 goals per game during the current campaign. Little Britain was ineffective while on the power play, as it was held to one goal off of nine man advantages. The Merchants could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 58 minutes in penalties during the game.

Little Britain was helped by Ben Marquis, who tallied one goal. Marquis scored 8:02 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Little Britain. Cash Cormier assisted on the tally. Little Britain additionally got points from Kurtis Moore, who also had one goal and one assist and Riley Jenkins, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Little Britain also got a goal from Terry Snoddon as well. In addition, Little Britain received assists from Aidan Renouf, Alex Moore, and Patrick Hamilton, who contributed one a piece.

Kevin Collins rejected 16 shots on goal for the Chiefs. Team's Eric Shewell and Gilbert were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Garrett Haden made 33 saves for the Merchants on 39 shots.
