Manley lifts Lakefield over Uxbridge, 9-5

The Lakefield Chiefs relied on the scoring touch of Derek Manley, who netted two goals, to beat the Uxbridge Bruins, 9-5.

Manley found the back of the net on the power play 16:53 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Uxbridge and again while 4:34 into the third to make the score 6-3 Lakefield.

Uxbridge's power play was ineffective against Lakefield's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 4:36 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The the Chiefs penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled nine minors and one major for 53 minutes in penalty time. Lakefield had been averaging 28.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Chiefs surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Lakefield has scored at the pace of 5.3 goals per game during the current campaign. The Chiefs' defense was uncharacteristically lax during the game. Lakefield is averaging 2.5 goals against for the season. The Chiefs' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Lakefield also got points from Eric Oosting, who also registered one goal and one assist and Travis Brault, who also had two goals and one assist. Lakefield also had goals scored by Josh Duggan and Ryan Saunders, who scored two goals each. In addition, Lakefield received assists from Bryce Sweeting, who had one, Ryan Anderson, who had three, Nathan Larson, who had five, and Keenan Runnalis and Eric Shewell, who each chipped in two.

The Bruins forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up six minors and one major for 47 minutes in penalty time. Uxbridge surpassed its season average of 24.0 penalty minutes per game. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

The Bruins were led by Matt Trudel, who racked up one goal and one assist. Trudel scored 7:28 into the third period to make the score 6-4 Lakefield. Jarett Smith picked up the assist. Uxbridge additionally got points from Matthew Allen, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Marco Mastrangelo, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Smith, who also registered one goal and one assist. Jeremy Toupin APM also scored for Uxbridge. More assists for Uxbridge came via Connor Miller, Tim Bierema, and Matt Pollard APM, who each chipped in one.

Lakefield registered three goals on seven power play opportunities. Team's Sweeting and Dalton Hill were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Uxbridge ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Tyson Eastgate was ejected from the game.
