Early goals doom Georgina, falls to Port Perry, 11-1

A four-goal first period deficit cost the Georgina Ice, which could not recover and fell to the Port Perry Mojacks, 11-1.

Lucas Berkers was all over the ice for Port Perry, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win. Berkers scored on the power play 11:45 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Port Perry. A checking from behind penalty on Brett Hembruff had put the Mojacks on the power play. Kyle Powell picked up the assist.

Port Perry's Jeff Julien was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 27 saves and let only one puck past him. Julien managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.81 prior to the game.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 4:47 into the second period. Six fighting penalties were dished out along with four game misconducts.

The Mojacks' offense rang up 41 shots on Georgina's net. Port Perry surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, the Mojacks average 3.5 goals per contest. Port Perry took advantage of the Ice's penalties, tallying two goals off of three power play opportunities. The defensemen of the Mojacks were also effective in Georgina's zone, and came away with two goals.

Port Perry additionally got points from Conner Shingler, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Powell, who also registered four goals and one assist to lead the team in points, and Konrad Piorkowski, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Port Perry included Ryan Nichols, Joe Lamanna, Graham Lamers, and Jeff St. Pierre, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Port Perry were Lee Taylor, who had two, Colton Hawko, who had four, and Eric MacDonald, Ryan Bernardes, Owen Bateman, Ryan Beattie, and Brodie Meyers, who each chipped in one.

The Ice were led by Carver Ormiston, who scored the team's only goal. Ormiston scored on the power play 15:52 into the second period to make the score 7-1 Port Perry. Georgina had gotten the advantage when Port Perry's Lamanna was sent off for cross checking. Jonathon Colley provided the assist.

The Mojacks ended with 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors and two majors. Team's Lucas Clark, Logan Evans, and Bateman were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Ethan Slimowitz rejected 30 shots on goal for the Ice. Georgina totaled 21 minutes in penalty time with three minors and three majors and went 1-for-5 on the power play. For the Ice, Hembruff, Luke Vanderkooy, and Curtis Puhalski were ejected from the contest.
