Georgina uses shootout to best Uxbridge, 3-2 (2-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Georgina Ice defeated the Uxbridge Bruins in a shootout 3-2 (2-0 SO).

The two teams needed four turns to complete the shootout. In addition to the clincher, Georgina got a shootout goal from JD Leblond.

The Ice pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 27 penalty minutes.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 13:33 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Georgina was helped by Devon Smith, who had one goal. Smith scored on the power play 18:05 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Georgina. The Ice had gotten the advantage when Uxbridge's Adam Bartholomew was sent off for interference. Curtis Puhalski picked up the assist. Georgina also got a goal from McKenzie Gray as well. In addition, Georgina received assists from Cameron Nuttall, Brandon Basler, and Luke Vanderkooy, who contributed one a piece.

The Bruins were helped by Tim Bierema, who registered one goal. Bierema scored on the power play 19:18 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Uxbridge earned a power play opportunity when Carver Ormiston was put in the box for hooking. Connor Beck provided the assist. Korey Brand also scored for Uxbridge. More assists for Uxbridge came via Jason Simmonds and Matt Trudel, who each chipped in one.

Georgina registered one goal on four power play opportunities. The Ice ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Brandon Brown was ejected from the game. The Bruins totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-7 on the power play. For Uxbridge, Tyson Eastgate was ejected from the game.
