Wainman stymies Port Perry, Lakefield wins 3-1

The Lakefield Chiefs relied on the sparkling performance of Zach Wainman in net to grab a 3-1 win against the Port Perry Mojacks.

Lakefield was sparked by Nathan Larson, who had one goal. Larson scored on the power play 4:54 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Lakefield. The Chiefs had taken the advantage when Port Perry's Owen Bateman got sent off for high sticking. Connor Blair picked up the assist.

Lakefield stifled the Mojacks' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Chiefs could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Lakefield puts an average of 5.3 pucks into the net per game. The Chiefs forced Port Perry goalie Drew Siydock to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots.

Lakefield also got points from Derek Manley, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Travis Brault also scored for Lakefield. More assists for Lakefield came via Gregory Jesse and Eric Shewell, who each chipped in one.

The Mojacks were held below their usual level of production. Port Perry averages 3.3 goals per game. Lakefield was unable to stop the Mojacks from sending pucks towards the net, and Port Perry eventually piled up 37 shots on goal.

The Mojacks were led by Lee Taylor, who scored the team's only goal. Taylor scored 16:10 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Lakefield. Brodie Meyers assisted on the tally.

Zach Wainman made 36 saves for the Chiefs on 37 shots. Lakefield totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 2-for-6 on the power play. The Chiefs ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Ryan Anderson was ejected from the game. Siydock rejected 29 shots on goal for Port Perry. The Mojacks incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
