Powell's goals lift Port Perry to 7-4 victory over Georgina

Kyle Powell had two goals to lead the Port Perry Mojacks to a 7-4 victory over the Georgina Ice.

Powell found the back of the net 4:09 into the first period to make the score 1-1 and again while 2:49 into the second to make the score 3-1 Port Perry.

Port Perry's penalty kill excelled, as the Mojacks gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 5:42 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Port Perry forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 16.0 minutes per game the Mojacks had been spending in the box. Port Perry kept Georgina's goalie busy throughout the game, and Tyler Richardson made 46 saves on 53 shots. The Mojacks surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Port Perry has scored at the pace of 3.3 goals per game during the current campaign.

Port Perry additionally got points from Logan Evans, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Port Perry included Conner Shingler, who had two and Ryan Nichols and Lee Taylor, who each put in one. In addition, Port Perry received assists from Brodie Meyers, who had two and Colton Hawko, Owen Bateman, and Konrad Piorkowski, who contributed one a piece.

The Ice racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. Georgina had been averaging 25.0 minutes in penalties per game. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

The Ice were helped by Kyle Bricknell, who racked up one goal. Bricknell scored on the power play 2:34 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Georgina. Georgina had gotten the advantage when the Mojacks' Nichols was sent off for slashing. Devon Smith assisted on the tally. Georgina also got points from Brett thiessen, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Brandon Basler, who also registered one goal and one assist. Georgina also got a goal from Jesse Johnston as well. More assists for Georgina came via Jonathon Colley, who had two and Brandon Brown, Jody Nonnewitz, and Carver Ormiston, who each chipped in one.

Jeff Julien recorded 26 saves for Port Perry. The Mojacks registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Port Perry ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Lucas Berkers was ejected from the game. For the Ice, Brett Hembruff was ejected from the game.
