Lakefield squeaks by Port Perry, 5-3Scugog Memorial Arena Sun, Dec 29, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Lakefield Chiefs gutted out a close 5-3 win against the Port Perry Mojacks. Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Ryan Saunders's goal in the second period proved to be the difference maker. Derek Manley was all over the ice for Lakefield, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win. Manley scored 19:27 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Lakefield. Saunders assisted on the tally. Port Perry was unable to stop the Chiefs from sending pucks towards the net, and Lakefield eventually piled up 57 shots on goal. Lakefield also got points from Saunders, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Travis Brault, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Lakefield included Connor Blair and Nathan Larson, who each put in one. In addition, Lakefield received assists from Eric Oosting, who had one and Jordan Walsh and Eric Shewell, who contributed two a piece. The Mojacks' offense rang up 39 shots on the Chiefs' net. Port Perry was led by Jeff St. Pierre, who racked up one goal and one assist. St. Pierre scored on the power play 11:03 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Port Perry. The Mojacks had gained a power play chance when Keenan Runnalis was whistled for checking from behind. Lucas Berkers provided the assist. Port Perry additionally got points from Berkers, who also had one goal and one assist. Port Perry also got a goal from Lucas Clark as well. More assists for Port Perry came via Kyle Powell, who had two. Zach Wainman made 36 saves for Lakefield on 39 shots. The Chiefs incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Lakefield ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Runnalis was ejected from the game. Drew Siydock rejected 52 shots on goal for Port Perry. The Mojacks incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. |
