Lakefield stifles Clarington's comeback, gains 6-4 victory

The Lakefield Chiefs, who led by three goals at one point, survived a comeback attempt by the Clarington Eagles and clinched a 6-4 victory.

Lakefield led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Chiefs' Derek Manley's scored at 17:31 in the second period to put Lakefield up 6-3.

The Chiefs got the win thanks to a great game by Manley, who had two goals and two assists. Manley scored the first of his two goals at 16:26 into the second period to make the score 5-3 Lakefield. Brett Thomson assisted on the tally. Manley's next tally made the score Lakefield with 2:29 left in the second period. Jordan Walsh picked up the assist.

Lakefield made Clarington's goalies to work without much rest, getting 32 shots and forcing 26 saves. CJ Sharp made 20 stops and Connor Visca made six.

Lakefield additionally got points from Walsh, who also registered one goal and one assist and Travis Brault, who also finished with two goals and one assist. Bryce Sweeting also scored for Lakefield. In addition, Lakefield received assists from Ryan Anderson and Keenan Runnalis, who each chipped in one and Eric Oosting and Nathan Larson, who contributed two a piece.

The Chiefs were unable to stop the Eagles from sending pucks towards the net, and Clarington eventually piled up 31 shots on goal. The Eagles could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 34 minutes in penalties during the game.

Clarington was helped by Brent Hambly, who grabbed one goal. Hambly scored 3:59 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Clarington. Chris Turner provided the assist. Clarington also had goals scored by Jake Carier APM, Dylan Howorko, and Mitchell Burghardt APM, who scored one goal each. More assists for Clarington came via Jake Choiniere, who had three and Cody Kean and Brad Down, who each chipped in one.

Lakefield's Zach Wainman stopped 27 shots out of the 31 that he faced. The Chiefs incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. The Eagles registered two goals on five power play opportunities. For Clarington, Mitchell Marchbank and Down were ejected from the contest.
