Clarington hangs on, beats Georgina 5-3Georgina Ice Palace Tue, Feb 04, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Clarington Eagles beat the Georgina Ice, 5-3, in a contest where the winning goal was scored in the first period but the game remained close throughout. Mitchell Burghardt APM provided Clarington with the game-winning tally when he scored 11:07 into the the first period. A handling the puck penalty on Ryan Milne had put the Eagles on the power play. Jarod Holister provided the assist.Burghardt APM was all over the ice for Clarington, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Georgina was unable to stop the Eagles from sending pucks towards the net, and Clarington eventually piled up 33 shots on goal. The Eagles were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 30 penalty minutes. Clarington also got points from Cody Kean, who also had one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Clarington included Cole Murray and Brent Hambly, who each put in one. In addition, Clarington received assists from Chris Turner, Jake Choiniere, Blane Gaudon, Mike Hibbard, and Brad Down, who each chipped in one. The Ice's offense rang up 36 shots on Clarington's net. Georgina's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals. The Ice were helped by Jonathon Colley, who registered one goal. Colley scored on the power play 7:46 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Clarington. Georgina earned a power play opportunity when Connor Visca was put in the box for interference. Brandon Basler assisted on the tally. Georgina additionally got points from Basler, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Georgina also got a goal from Ryan Kernahan as well. Other players who recorded assists for Georgina were Carver Ormiston, who had two and Devon Smith, Brett thiessen, and Kyle Bricknell, who contributed one a piece. Visca recorded 33 saves for the Eagles. Clarington registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Tyler Richardson made 28 saves for the Ice on 32 shots.
