Huge game by Saunders boosts Lakefield over Little Britain, 6-1

Behind a great game by Ryan Saunders, who had two goals and one assist, the Lakefield Chiefs defeated the Little Britain Merchants, 6-1.

Saunders found the back of the net 13:23 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Lakefield and again while on the power play 11:26 into the second to make the score 2-1 Lakefield.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 3:31 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Lakefield put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Little Britain to score on any of its five power plays. The Chiefs kept the Merchants' goalie busy throughout the game, and Justus Husak made 32 saves on 38 shots.

Lakefield also had goals scored by Devin Gilbert, who had two and Jordan Walsh and Eric Oosting, who scored one goal each. In addition, Lakefield received assists from William Sullivan, who had two, Eric Shewell, who had three, and Mitch Stewart, Travis Brault, and Derek Manley, who contributed one a piece.

Little Britain was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 27 penalty minutes.

The Merchants were led by Jesse Craig AP, who scored the team's only goal. Craig AP scored 1:32 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Rory McDowell assisted on the tally.

Lakefield's Kevin Collins stopped 23 shots out of the 24 that he faced. The Chiefs totaled 21 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and one major and went 1-for-6 on the power play. For Lakefield, Dalton Hill and Gregory Jesse were ejected from the contest. Little Britain ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Greg ONeil was ejected from the game.
