Georgina wins tough contest against Little Britain, 4-2Georgina Ice Palace Fri, Dec 06, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Georgina Ice gutted out a close 4-2 win against the Little Britain Merchants. Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Brett thiessen's goal in the second period proved to be the difference maker. Georgina got the win on the strength of a great game by Jody Nonnewitz, who had one goal and two assists. Nonnewitz scored on the power play 8:44 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Georgina. The Ice had gained a power play chance when Jesse Beers was whistled for hooking. Thiessen assisted on the tally. Georgina pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 25 penalty minutes. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 18:28 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. The Ice kept Little Britain's goalie busy throughout the game, and Justus Husak made 32 saves on 36 shots. Georgina additionally got points from thiessen, who also had one goal and one assist and Mack McLean, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Georgina also got a goal from Brandon Brown as well. In addition, Georgina received assists from Jesse Johnston and Brandon Basler, who contributed one a piece. Georgina was unable to stop the Merchants from sending pucks towards the net, and Little Britain eventually piled up 33 shots on goal. The Merchants were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 25 penalty minutes. Little Britain was helped by Alex Moore, who grabbed one goal. Moore scored 7:36 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Ben Marquis picked up the assist. Kurtis Moore also scored for Little Britain. More assists for Little Britain came via Terry Snodden, Greg ONeil, and Brett Doble, who each chipped in one. The Ice's Tyler Richardson stopped 31 shots out of the 33 that he faced. Georgina registered three goals on six power play opportunities. The Ice ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Brett Hembruff was ejected from the game. The Merchants registered one goal on six power play opportunities. For Little Britain, Pat Hamilton was ejected from the game.
