Port Perry falls apart in second, loses to Lakefield, 7-1

The Lakefield Chiefs used a four-goal second period to put away the Port Perry Mojacks, 7-1.

Port Perry was stymied by Lakefield netminder Kevin Collins, who stopped 25 shots during the victory. The solid play of Collins will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 3.03.

The Chiefs' penalty kill excelled, as Lakefield gave up zero goals despite allowing seven power plays.

The Chiefs made the Mojacks' goaltenders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, finishing with 43 shots and forcing 36 saves. Drew Siydock made eight stops and Jeff Julien made 28. Lakefield stifled Port Perry's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Chiefs could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 40 minutes in penalties during the game.

Lakefield was led by Travis Brault, who finished with one goal and one assist. Brault scored 10:03 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Lakefield. Ryan Anderson picked up the assist. Lakefield additionally got points from Shawn Mackie, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Devin Gilbert, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Derek Manley, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Gregory Jesse also scored for Lakefield. In addition, Lakefield received assists from Eric Shewell and Nick Hildebrant, who contributed one a piece.

The Mojacks were held below their usual level of production. Port Perry puts an average of 3.1 pucks into the net per game. The Mojacks struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 42 penalty minutes for 11 opposing power plays.

Port Perry also got a goal from Graham Lamers as well. More assists for Port Perry came via Lucas Clark and Jeff St. Pierre, who each chipped in one.
