Down's big game bests Port Perry in 6-2 Clarington win

Brad Down was all over the ice for the Clarington Eagles, as he tallied two goals and two assists in Clarington's 6-2 win over the Port Perry Mojacks.

Down found the back of the net on the power play 8:35 into the first period to make the score 1-1 and again while short handed 12:26 into the second to make the score 3-2 Clarington.

The Eagles found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Clarington averages 3.4 goals per game. The Eagles took advantage of Port Perry's penalties, tallying two goals off of three power play opportunities. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Clarington additionally got points from Bradley Dell, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Mike Hibbard, who also tallied two goals and one assist. Clarington also got a goal from Cole Murray as well. More assists for Clarington came via Jake Choiniere, Mitchell Burghardt APM, Jarod Holister, Shawn Murza, and Jesse Hewak, who each chipped in one.

The Mojacks' offense were handcuffed by Clarington's defensive play, and Port Perry managed only two shots on goal during the game.

The Mojacks were led by Logan Evans, who had two goals. Evans scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 6:58 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Port Perry. A hooking penalty on Hewak had put Port Perry on the power play. Evans' next tally on the power play made the score 2-2 with 11:40 left in the second period. The Mojacks had gained a power play chance when Dylan Howorko was whistled for high sticking. Brodie Meyers provided the assist. In addition, Port Perry received assists from Lucas Berkers, who had one.

The Eagles incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Port Perry incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
