Lakefield rolls over Georgina, 11-4

The Lakefield Chiefs were firing on all cylinders against the Georgina Ice, and when the final buzzer sounded Chiefs emerged with an 11-4 win.

With six goals and four assists between them, Jordan Walsh and Gregory Jesse teamed up to power Lakefield's offense. Walsh racked up two goals and three assists and Jesse also notched four goals and one assist.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 3:16 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Chiefs did not rack up many penalties in the contest, and ended with seven minors and two majors for 24 minutes in penalty time. Lakefield finished with less than its 31.0 minutes average penalties per game. The Chiefs found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Lakefield has scored at the pace of 4.9 goals per game during the current campaign.

Lakefield also got points from Jesse, who also tallied four goals and one assist, Travis Brault, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Derek Manley, who also registered one goal and four assists to lead the team in points. Lakefield also had goals scored by Shawn Mackie, who had one and Nathan Larson, who had two. More assists for Lakefield came via Eric Oosting, who had two and Josh Duggan and Nick Hildebrant, who contributed one a piece.

Georgina did not challenge the opposing netminder, only getting 12 shots on net to force eight saves. The Ice found themselves short handed often, totaling 24 penalty minutes and allowing six power plays.

Georgina was led by Brett thiessen, who had three goals and one assist. McKenzie Gray also scored for Georgina. In addition, Georgina received assists from Jesse Johnston and Mack McLean, who each chipped in one.

Kevin Collins rejected eight shots on goal for the Chiefs. Team's Dalton Hill and Manley were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. The Ice's starting goalie, Tyler Richardson, made 16 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Ethan Slimowitz, who stopped zero shots. Georgina registered two goals on five power play opportunities. For the Ice, Brandon Brown, Kyle Bricknell, and Jody Nonnewitz were ejected from the contest.
