GAME RECAP

Lakefield survives Clarington comeback, wins 4-3

Garnet B. Rickard Rec Complex    Sun, Nov 17, 2013

The Clarington Eagles tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Lakefield Chiefs would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-3.

Lakefield took a 4-2 lead during the third period, only to have Clarington storm back on a Brent Hambly goal 8:26 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

Shawn Mackie was all over the ice for the Chiefs, as he had two goals in the win. Mackie's tallies came short handed at 6:14 into the second period to make the score 2-2 and 15 seconds into the third to make the score 3-2 Lakefield.

Lakefield's offense was handcuffed by the Eagles' defensive play, and the Chiefs managed only four shots on goal during the game.

Others who scored for Lakefield included Nathan Larson and Derek Manley, who each put in one. More assists for Lakefield came via Eric Shewell, who had two and Jordan Walsh, Devin Gilbert, Eric Oosting, and Nick Hildebrant, who contributed one a piece.

Clarington forced Lakefield goalie Zach Wainman to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots.

The Eagles were helped by Brad Down, who finished with one goal. Down scored on the power play 1:58 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Clarington. Clarington had gained a power play chance when Gilbert was whistled for delay of game. Riley O'Connell assisted on the tally. Clarington also got points from Hambly, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Blane Gaudon also scored for Clarington. In addition, Clarington received assists from Morisette APM Mack and Cody Kean, who each chipped in one.

The Chiefs incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. The Eagles incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
